About Healing Way
Kevin Laux: Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbologist
I’ve always been fascinated by the workings of the human body. This led me to studying science intensively while at the University of Illinois. I decided that I would next study to become a medical doctor.
While I was applying to go to Medical school, I met a Doctor who also practiced Acupuncture. He was fascinated by Chinese Medicine and believed it had a lot to offer to conventional medicine and wished he had more time to study Acupuncture in depth. After looking into it myself, I decided that I would first pursue Chinese Medicine and go back for Medical school after.
It didn’t take long to learn that the study and practice of Chinese Medicine would be a lifelong one. After graduating from my Masters program, I still felt like there were many things I didn’t understand about Chinese Medicine as I had learned. This led me to a PhD program studying Classical Chinese Medicine in California in 2010. The teachings come from a lineage of Daoism that traces back 88 generations. They have produced many of the great scholars in the history of China. My teacher, Jeffrey Yuen, is the 88th generation of the Daoist Jade School of Purity and is a world renowned lecturer. I inspire to be as aware, knowledgeable, powerful, and compassionate as him.
In addition to the PhD studies, I am also involved in herbal studies with the Institute of Canonical Chinese Medicine. The founder, Arnaud Versluys, is the 20th generation lineage holder of the Tien-Zeng school of Shang Han Lun Herbalism. The teachings are also based on the classical writings of Chinese Medicine that date back well over 1000 years. It is one of the most informed and intricate methods of writing herbal prescriptions I have come across.
Both of my teachers have stated that you cannot learn everything about Chinese Medicine within a lifetime. I have come to share their belief. I inspire to keep growing within this field; to become not only a better practitioner but a better person in life. I am truly blessed to practice this medicine and to be able to help ease the suffering of the world, one patient at a time.
In my private life, I am a proud father of two sweet and amazing daughters. They help me grow in many beautiful ways. I share life with my partner Natalie, who fills my life with love and support. We all share a love of the outdoors, music, movement and the general awe of the beauty that life provides.
